Second Annual Rock 4 Research
On Friday Nov. 28th, the Tumornators will host their second annual Rock4Research benefit concert at Wild Bills in Duluth, GA. The event will feature a VIP party hosted by Atlanta Braves Jeff Francoeur and former UGA All American and Tampa Bay Buccaneer's Right Tackle Matt Stinchcomb. Also in attendance will be NFL All-Time leading scorer and former Atlanta Falcon, Morten Andersen along with Atlanta Braves Catcher and former Parkview High school graduate, Clint Sammons and others. The VIP party will be followed by a concert headlined by country singer Rhett Akins. Akins has had several chart toppers and #1's in his long career as an artist, including "That Ain't My Truck", "She Said Yes", and "Don't Get Me Started". More recently, Akins has penned tunes for the likes of Brooks and Dunn, Chris Cagle, and Trent Wilmon. Opening the show will be The Matt Moore Band, featuring Nashville's rising star singer/songwriter Matt Moore. Moore and drummer Matt Barnett, both graduated from Parkview High School with the Leathers brothers and have been instrumental in organizing this annual event. The unbelievable efforts of Moore, Barnett, and Francoeur really show what strength in this community is really about.

The Tumornators is a fundraising team started by the Leathers/Cone family in conjunction with The Children’s Tumor Foundation™ that is dedicated to raising money and awareness to end Neurofibromatosis (NF) and Schwannomatosis through research. Drew Leathers was diagnosed with this rare condition at age 16. To date, Drew has undergone a regimen of pain medications in conjunction with surgery. He currently has 11 incisions that are a combined six feet in length, including an 18-inch scar down his spine. As of now, the heavy pain medication and risky surgeries are the only treatment options to combat the tumors.
Francoeur, a former teammate of Chad’s at Parkview High School, also donated $500 to The Children’s Tumor Foundation™ on behalf of the Tumornators for every home run he hit in his 2007 season with the Atlanta Braves.
“We really appreciate Jeff's generosity and support through this,” Ben said. “It's a huge help having someone on board with that much notoriety.”
“I could never have made it this far without the support of my brothers,” Drew said. “They have been rocks upon which I stand, and they have kept a cure in sight for me."
VIP tickets are available online (www.wildbillsatlanta.com) for $20 and will include both the meet-and-greet and catering by numerous local restaurants and business like: Kroger, Chick-Fil-a, and Chili's. A silent auction of amazing items from The Sports Mix, signed items from Rhett Akins, Josh Turner, Luke Bryan, The Lost Trailers and Francoeur will also be featured before the concert.
General admission for the concert is $10 and can be purchased at the door on the night of the event.
Thanks to the generosity of thousands of people, the grassroots campaign has raised over $100,000 through fundraisers and donations. All funds raised are donated directly to The Children’s Tumor Foundation™ so that Drew and others like him can live a life free of the devastating impact of this disease.
The Leathers continue to dream bigger and bigger, hoping to reach $500,000 in total donations to The Children’s Tumor Foundation™ during the next year. Last year's Rock4Research was the first event of its kind- raising over $10,000 in its debut, yet as this special family knows, it is simply just another step in the journey.
